How To Master The Tenndel Serve

By Tenndel International

The Tenndel serve is underarm, cross-court, and must bounce once in the opponent's service box before they return. It sounds simple — and it is — but mastering the placement and spin will give you a significant advantage.

Step 1: Stand behind the baseline with both feet behind the line. Hold the ball in your non-dominant hand at waist height. Your paddle should be ready at your side.

Step 2: Drop the ball and strike it underarm with a smooth, controlled motion. No overhead motion is permitted. The ball must travel diagonally into the opponent's service box.

Step 3: Aim for depth. A deep serve that lands near the back of the service box limits your opponent's return options and sets up your first volley.

Step 4: Mix up spin. A slight topspin serve will kick up after the bounce, making returns harder. Practice 20 serves to each corner of the service box before every session.
